June 8-11 -- Summer Training Kick Off Week

Is summer running mandatory?
While summer running is not MANDATORY, it is highly encouraged that you attend practice whenever you are in town. You will get higher quality training, have greater opportunities to bond with teammates, and have greater consistency training with the team. Incoming freshmen will have an opportunity to meet teammates before school starts and be better prepared for in-season training. What if I am going on vacation and need to miss time? No problem! We completely understand that while summer training is important, it is also a time to enjoy vacations with family and friends. We just ask that you communicate with Coach Glowacki or Coach Walker ahead of time and make every effort to be at practice when you are in town! What should I bring to practice? You should bring proper running shoes (email Coach Glowacki if you need recommendations), a charged watch (does NOT have to be a GPS watch -- a $20 watch from target will do), a water bottle, and a positive attitude! Why is summer running important? First, it allows you time to slowly build mileage which avoids common injuries like shin splints once the season starts. Second, you are able to develop an aerobic base that allows your body to handle more intense workouts once the season starts. Third, you will build consistency that is necessary for great racing in the fall! Summer training is a "make or break" factor for your cross country season -- start the season fit, confident, and ready to go! |
